Summer is in full swing, but the Wisconsin Union Theater team is already thinking about the fall and the arrival of our 2022-23 season. Here, we highlight some of the incredible performers that will come to Madison as part of the our 103rd classical Concert Series.

We know you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for the June 19 Wisconsin Union Theater-hosted performance by eight-time GRAMMY Award-winning bassist and composer Christian McBride. While we eagerly await this concert, we thought it would be fun to share five fun facts about the jazz icon. Test your fanship! How many did you already know?

An André De Shields Fund Update 

Badgers and Badgers-at-heart near and far invested in supporting underrepresented groups or populations with their donations to the André De Shields Fund. We are now $66,000 closer to a goal of $1 million. That’s 1 million ways we can make a difference in representation on campus and in the arts.

After a brief hiatus during COVID-19, we are thrilled to announce that our Jazz Series will return for the 2022-2023 season! We plan to include six exciting jazz performances, ranging from young artists whose experimental music pushes the boundaries of jazz to award-winning jazz vocalists and more. We will release the full details in June, but this is your first chance to get a sneak peek at what’s to come.

From scientific labs to baking competitions to chamber music, Dr. Kato Perlman keeps on giving.

Katherine (Kato) Perlman, PhD, has touched the lives of medical patients, young scientists, and musicians alike. As a senior scientist, her brilliant contributions started in the pharmaceutical labs at UW-Madison. In recent years, her energy has shifted into artistic philanthropy. 

A Black Arts Matter (BAM) Festival to remember filled Memorial Union with art, storytelling, and energy from March 23 to 26. 

During each day of the celebration of Black art, stage lights shone on issues and stories portrayed through music, theater, dance, poetry, and comedy.

Meet Jackson “Jax” Neal, who has taken on the role of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Performing Arts Committee (PAC) director for the 2022-23 season. The UW-Madison students-led WUD PAC plans and promotes events for the Wisconsin Union Theater's stages in collaboration with Wisconsin Union Theater staff. Committee members also have the unique opportunity to work directly with artists throughout the booking process up through the day of a show. 

The 21-22 Wisconsin Union Theater season will soon wrap up with a spectacular event series featuring Renée Fleming, culminating in a final concert on April 30. As this season comes to a close, you may be wondering what’s ahead for next year! While we can’t release all the details yet, here’s a sneak peek at some of what’s to come.
