About » Wisconsin Union
WUD Music is run entirely by UW-Madison students who democratically decide which bands to book at our weekly meetings.
What We Do
We program exclusively for four venues:
Der Rathskeller is a place of conviviality with a German Beer Hall feel, where artists from WHY? to Julia Nunes to Diplo have played in the quintessential college environment.
The Play Circle is located on the second floor of Memorial Union and is home to a wide variety of acts including live stand up comedy, theater, and musical acts ranging from comedians Brandon Wardell and Joel Kim Booster, to the Black Music Ensemble and Hoops.
The Terrace is one of the country's only lakeside venues that offers entirely free concerts and has hosted a wide variety of bands like Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, Yo La Tengo, Janelle Monae, Caroline Smith, San Fermin, Sharon Van Etten, Betty Who, and many others!
The Sett is located on the first floor of Union South. The Sett has been home to acts such as Kreayshawn and Neon Indian, Flosstradamus, Com Truise, Los Campesinos!, Big Freedia and the Divas, Doomtree, Kimya Dawson, and Kina Grannis.
The Behind the Beat series takes place Friday afternoons from 4-6pm on the Memorial Union Terrace in the summer and in Der Rathskeller during the school year.
We can help you with event planning and finding a band/musical act for you event, as well as help you obtain financial support for your event.
If you are an independent promoter or campus student organization looking to collaborate with WUD Music, please contact music@union.wisc.edu.
We sometimes feature paid programs that extend beyond the scope of our free weekend music programming. Paid events happen in venues such as the Wisconsin Union Theater, Varsity Hall in Union South, and other local venues.
Recent Paid Programs include fun., Nick Offerman, Of Montreal, Girl Talk, Broken Social Scene, Ying Yang Twins, Cursive, Mason Jennings, Steve Aoki, and Minus the Bear.
Contact music@union.wisc.edu with questions about paid programming and other large events.
As the music industry changes we are looking for new ways to promote and reach new, broader audiences. Follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram. We also employ a number of traditional promotion methods such as flyering, print advertisements, ticket giveaways, silk-screen posters, etc.
If you like getting out there and beating the pavement by posting fliers all over town or want to try your hand at designing posters/fliers for our shows contact music@union.wisc.edu.
