The Hoofer Sailing Club will host a screening of “Coyote: The Mike Plant Story” at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Shannon Hall in Memorial Union, with ticket sales supporting the building of a new Hoofer marina.
“Coyote: The Mike Plant Story” tells the incredible story of legendary Midwestern sailor Mike Plant and his ambition for adventure as he journeys on a solo trip around the world. Screening attendees will see Plant overcome numerous obstacles, including time in a Portuguese prison, in his pursuit of making his dreams come true.
Reebok CrossFit Games will host free workouts, including boot camp-style workouts and yoga, at the Wisconsin Union’s Memorial Union in July and August.
Together with Capital Fitness, Reebok will host its boot camp-style workout Aug. 2, 9, 16 and 30 at 7 p.m. in the Festival Room. CrossFit athletes will lead each workout.
Also, on July 28, Reebok CrossFit Games will host yoga on the Memorial Union Terrace beginning at 9 a.m. Yoga will also be held at 9 a.m. each Saturday in August.
Union Council, the governing body of the Wisconsin Union, will host open forums July 11 and 12 at Memorial Union regarding the names of two spaces in Memorial Union, called the Porter Butts Gallery and the Fredric March Play Circle.
The Council will hold the July 11 forum in the Capitol View Room noon to 1 p.m. The July 12 forum will be held 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Old Madison East. Both forums are open to the public. To ensure Council members hear from a variety of voices within each timeframe, each person who wishes to speak will be given three minutes.
The Wisconsin Union’s Wheelhouse Studios will hold six free art-making and crafting events, called Terrace Art Zone, on the Memorial Union Terrace Wednesdays 4 p.m.-7 p.m. June 13-July 25.
The Wisconsin Union will host an Independence Day Celebration June 30 at the Memorial Union Terrace, which will include a lineup of free entertainment and fireworks over Lake Mendota.
The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Music and Film Committees have released the full lineup of Terrace After Dark, an iconic series of free live music and film showings at the Memorial Union Terrace.
Wisconsin Union statement on next steps regarding Porter Butts Gallery and Fredric March Play Circle
The Wisconsin Union met with Chancellor Rebecca Blank on Wednesday and had a productive discussion about multiple actions regarding the spaces in Memorial Union known as the Fredric March Play Circle and the Porter Butts Gallery.
These actions are in response to a recent campus study group report and to concerns expressed by the campus community regarding Porter Butts’ and Fredric March’s participation in a former student organization called the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s while they were UW-Madison students.
The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Publications Committee will celebrate culture in literature and storytelling during the WUD Publications Lit Fest from April 16 to April 26.

The sunburst chairs will return to the Wisconsin Union’s Memorial Union Terrace April 24 at 4:30 p.m., and UW-Madison students and community members are invited to take part in their return.
April 24 will mark the start of Terrace season, an almost-90-year-old Madison tradition at one of Wisconsin’s most iconic summer destinations.
