The Wisconsin Union Theater’s free Madison World Music Festival will bring an online multicultural music experience to patrons Sept. 11-12 with live and recorded performances and live workshops.

The 2020 Madison World Music Festival lineup includes the following:

The Wisconsin Union will host events for University of Wisconsin–Madison students Aug. 28-Sept. 1 to welcome students to campus, including a free, virtual performance and Q&A with comedian and activist Hasan Minhaj presented by the Wisconsin Union Theater on Sept. 1 from 8-9 p.m.

The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Publications Committee’s summer issue, titled “Community,” debuted Aug. 26 with topics ranging from public policy to food systems all centered on the idea of community.

Unique to this summer, all six publications of the University of Wisconsin-Madison student-run Publications Committee worked together to create its first-ever collaborative issue. Click here to read “Community.”

Internationally celebrated pianist Wu Han will perform as a concerto soloist with the UW-Madison Symphony Orchestra on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamel Music Center.

They will perform Adès’s Suite No.1 from “Powder Her Face”; Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, op. 37; and Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major, op. 73.

Political strategist Symone D. Sanders will present a talk called “Black History, American History” April 6 in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union.

Sanders’s lecture is part of the student-led Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee’s spring lecture series.

Award-winning science writer and author of “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” Rebecca Skloot will speak at a free lecture in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) spring lecture series.

Bill Nye to speak at free Wisconsin Union Directorate Distinguished Lecture Series Committee event

Science educator, mechanical engineer and author Bill Nye will talk climate change at Memorial Union April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Shannon Hall as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee’s spring lecture series.

Jerome Rand to speak at a free event in Memorial Union Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Award-winning author Marlon James will speak at the Madison Central Library on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. about a range of topics, including writing, the Caribbean, race and gender, as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee’s free lecture opportunities.

The Jamaican-born author’s books include, “Black Leopard Red Wolf,” “A Brief History of Seven Killings,” “John Crow’s Devil” and “The Book of Night Women.” His work has been called gripping, action-packed, thrilling, intense and epic.
