The Wisconsin Union employs over a thousand student employees each semester in a multitude of roles, providing real-world experience for their next career step. You'll find our amazing students working behind the cash register at Der Rathskeller, setting up for weddings or conferences in Great Hall, answering calls at the front desk of the Wisconsin Union hotel and so much more. Because our spaces wouldn't be the same without their dedicated work, we've set up a way to share our appreciation with them: the Student Employee Advisory Group (SEAG).
What is SEAG?
The Student Employee Advisory Group (SEAG) is a student-led organization that strengthens communication and positive relationships among student employees, permanent staff, management and volunteers across the Wisconsin Union. SEAG coordinates fun and meaningful recognition initiatives each year--such as meal coupons, graduation gifts, "Student Employee of the Month" awards and more.

T.I.P.S.- Thoughtful Investment in the Potential of Staff
As Wisconsin State employees, student staff members cannot accept personal tips. We offer a way for guests to express their appreciation: by donating credit card and cash "tips" to the Employee Recognition Fund through our new T.I.P.S. initiative.

These donations are not personal gratuities. They support meaningful recognition and development opportunities for all student employees.
How It Works at the Point of Sale
- When guests are prompted to add a tip, they can choose to donate to the T.I.P.S. Fund.
- Clear signage at all Union dining locations explains that credit card and cash "tips" are donations benefiting student staff organization-wide-- not individual workers.
- Guests may also donate via on-site collection boxes or online via our donation page.
Where T.I.P.S. Funds Go
Donations support impactful programs such as:
- Free or discounted meals for student employees
- Monthly "Student Employee of the Month" awards
- Graduation recognition gifts
- Staff appreciation events and celebrations
