After a year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Hoofer Ski and Snowboard Resale will return next month, celebrating 57 years of the time-honored tradition. The Resale will take place at Union South’s Varsity Hall on Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon.

    Local and national vendors will sell new and gently used gear at the Resale, such as downhill and cross-country skis, snowboards, boots, helmets, poles, jackets and other winter recreation equipment at significantly reduced prices. Some of this year’s vendors include:

MADISON – The Brooklyn-based music group Phony Ppl began as teenagers with a love for music, creating songs in a band member’s basement, and now performs its music to fans in venues around the world. Phony Ppl will perform its genre-defying music to patrons in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union and through an online livestream on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. CDT

Now through Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. CDT, or while supplies last, Wisconsin Union customers can order Thanksgiving to Go, a tradition aimed at providing Wisconsin Union members; University of Wisconsin-Madison students, staff, and faculty; and the greater Madison community with ease and efficiency for their holiday celebrations. Patrons can place their orders through the Thanksgiving To Go website and pick up their meals on Nov. 24.

After a 2020 Homecoming of completely virtual festivities, the Wisconsin Homecoming Committee and the Wisconsin Union invite all to Homecoming festivities Oct. 24-31, including a parade, free hot chocolate, a Badger Bash tailgate celebration and more.

The Wisconsin Union Theater team presents a performance featuring Oscar-nominated, Grammy-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard, who will pay tribute to his mentor Wayne Shorter in a special collaborative project, called ABSENCE, with The E-Collective and Turtle Island Quartet on Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union.

Critically acclaimed chamber orchestra Sphinx Virtuosi will perform on Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s 2021-22 Concert Series

In addition to marking the beginning of the Concert Series season, Sphinx Virtuosi will be the first classical music concert with an in-person audience held in Shannon Hall since March 2020. 

The Wisconsin Union Theater will receive a Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, which provides emergency assistance for venues affected by COVID-19, in the amount $686,413.58 from the U.S. Small Business Administration. 

COVID-19 began impacting the Wisconsin Union Theater’s operations in March 2020. That month, with news of COVID-19’s increasing presence in the United States, the Theater team followed the University’s mandated closure of all in-person gatherings and moved to planning online events until it could safely resume in-person programming. 

Wisconsin Union Theater team releases full 2021-22 season lineup

The Wisconsin Union Theater team’s 2021-22 season will include jazz, classical music, R&B music, the return of the Black Arts Matter Festival, and more and will begin in September with in-person performances and some virtual attendance options.
