Wisconsin Union Introduces Wheelhouse on Wheels
Posted: 06/29/16
Wheelhouse on Wheels, a drop-in art program, now takes place on the Memorial Union Terrace every Wednesday until July 27 from 4-7 p.m. Wheelhouse on Wheels gives patrons an opportunity to explore their creativity by participating in a variety of arts and crafts projects.
Wheelhouse on Wheels’ successful debut on June 15 included creating and decorating bubble wands. About 85 guests participated in the project, which sent soapy bubbles flying over the newly renovated space.
Other crafts will include hat decorating, henna tattoos and Terrace sunburst mandalas. Members and guests will also be able to decorate tissue vases and keepsake boxes. Finally, visitors can upcycle T-shirts to create interesting headbands and belts.
“We offer a variety of free activities and programs in our studios, including Free Art Fridays during the semester, so Wheelhouse on Wheels serves as an extension of that philosophy,” said Jay Ekleberry, Wheelhouse Studios director. “It is another way for people to engage in art regardless of what their experience level is.”
Members and guests can spot Wheelhouse on Wheels by looking for its unique, turquoise chairs and tables on the Terrace. If weather does not permit outdoor arts and crafts, the crafting will take place at Wheelhouse Studios inside the Memorial Union.
