Student leaders to hold gender and politics video art exhibition

The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Art and Film Committees will showcase a gender and politics video art history exhibition on April 13 in Union’s South’s Marquee Cinema.

The committees’ student leaders selected films that focus on gender, politics, and how both relate to how society functions.

Committee members chose multiple films for this exhibition included but not limited to “An I For An I” by Lawrence Andrews and “Perfect Leader” by Max Almy. Together, the exhibition’s films will showcase 40 years of video art.

“The works will carry viewers through emotional highs and lows,” said Haley Fuhr, WUD Art associate director of marketing. “The collection mixes sarcasm and seriousness to take everyone on a really unique journey through video art.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public. The student-run showcase will begin at 7:30 p.m. with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

WUD Art is a student-run committee that manages all aspects of exhibitions, from artist selection and installation to marketing efforts. It is also responsible for programming shows in the Wisconsin Union’s two galleries: the Class of 1925 in Memorial Union and Gallery 1308 in Union South.

WUD Art’s exhibition partner the WUD Film Committee is also a student-run committee. This team aims to bring a diverse, innovating and exciting lineup of films to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and surrounding area. The committee manages multiple aspects of film showings, from film selections to marketing screenings.
