Terrace on Lake Michigan includes sights, sounds, sips of the Terrace and chance to win Terrace chair
The Wisconsin Union in partnership with the UW Credit Union and the Hoan Group invite all to the Terrace on Lake Michigan, an evening with the sights, sounds and tastes of the Wisconsin Union’s Memorial Union Terrace, in Milwaukee on Sept. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. as part of Hoancoming, an end-of-summer celebration of civic pride, community and connection.
The free-to-attend Terrace experience will celebrate the connection between the Madison and Milwaukee communities.
For one evening, part of the Lake Michigan shore will be transformed into a mini version of the Wisconsin Union’s beloved waterfront gathering place, the Terrace. Attendees will enjoy elements of the Terrace, including the iconic sunburst Terrace chairs, brats, beverages, as well as performances by DJ LoLo and the University of Wisconsin Marching Band.
Hoancoming will also feature a boat parade at 6 p.m. and a light and drone show at 7:45 p.m. synced with Milwaukee's Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge. Hosted by the Hoan Group, Hoancoming is a citywide, end-of-summer event that aims to bring Milwaukee together to celebrate everything that makes the community unique.
“Terrace on Lake Michigan is about more than brats, chairs and music; it’s about the shared connection between Milwaukee and Madison,” said Mark Guthier, Wisconsin Union director and University of Wisconsin–Madison associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “The Wisconsin Union's Terrace experience is a source of community, joy and pride for Wisconsin, and bringing that experience to Milwaukee is the perfect way to join the communities together.”
Attendees can bring a current or expired UW–Madison student ID, a current UW–Madison staff Wiscard, a Wisconsin Union lifetime or annual membership card, or a UW Credit Union debit or credit card to enter prize drawings. Each card earns a guest one entry into a drawing for prizes, including a full-size Terrace chair.
“Madison and Milwaukee are home to the majority of our members,” said Anne Norman, UW Credit Union executive vice president and chief marketing and product strategy officer. “This event is a way to bridge the two communities and celebrate what makes them so unique. There is a lot of shared love among these markets, and this is such a fun way to bring that to life."
