WUD Art to Debut Unique Mixed Media Exhibition at Memorial Union

Posted: 10/19/16

The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Art Committee will host an opening reception to celebrate the debut of a new exhibition by artist Rebecca Hamlin Green titled “Naturealism” from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 21 in Memorial Union’s Class of 1925 Gallery.

The exhibit highlights the structural components of domestic spaces and the emotional and psychological impact that the domestic realm has on individuals.

“Rebecca’s art is personal, nostalgic, emotional and surprising,” said Yusi Liu, the director of WUD Art. “The combination of natural setting and domestic items recalls personal memories. It is very engaging.”

Liu indicated that committee members have enjoyed working with Green because of the challenging yet gratifying process of installing and curating her delicate exhibition, which even included placing live grass on the floor.

“WUD Art is dedicated to bringing novel and challenging exhibitions to the Wisconsin Union and advancing visual arts in the Madison community,” Liu said. “Rebecca’s art is contemporary and unique. It enriches the visual experience on campus and in Madison.”

WUD Art is a student-run committee that manages all aspects of Union exhibitions, from artist selection and installation to marketing efforts.
