Posted: 05/09/16

Weekend to Include Live Music, Cap Decorating, Giant Sunburst Chair Photo Opportunities

The Wisconsin Union will offer special events, promotions, photo opportunities and lifetime memberships to graduating seniors during graduation weekend at Union South and Memorial Union.

The festivities begin on Thursday, May 12, at 3:30 p.m. when graduating seniors are invited to place Terrace furniture on the temporarily reopened space for the first time since it closed last fall. Seniors are to gather at the N. Park Street Terrace entrance.

Then, on Friday, May 13, Wheelhouse Studios will host “Cappy Hour”, a graduation cap decorating session, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Sett at Union South. Graduating seniors can also enjoy $5 cheese curds.

The celebration will continue at the Memorial Union Terrace where the ‘80s cover band 16 Candles will perform from 9 p.m. to midnight, weather-permitting.

On Saturday, May 14, Union South will provide free professional photos on a giant sunburst chair from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Students who participate in this photo opportunity will receive a coupon for a free ice cream scoop at The Daily Scoop. During this time, a breakfast menu will be available at The Sett.

Also on Saturday, Memorial Union will host another opportunity for graduates to obtain free professional photos on a giant sunburst chair from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will receive coupons for ice cream at The Daily Scoop. In addition, lifetime Wisconsin Union memberships will be available for purchase from noon to 9 p.m.

From noon to 5 p.m., graduating seniors wearing their caps and gowns can bowl for free at Sett Recreation at Union South.

On Saturday evening, pop trio Gin, Chocolate & Bottle Rockets will perform on the Terrace from 9 p.m. to midnight. The Terrace will close following graduation weekend at 11:59 p.m. on May 15 to undergo its final renovations and will reopen on May 20, weather-permitting.

“So many memories are made at Union South and Memorial Union,” Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier said. “We hope these events help graduating seniors celebrate their times here and make some new memories to last a lifetime.”
