Memorial Union Terrace will Remain Open

Posted: 05/17/16

The Memorial Union Terrace will remain open after what the Wisconsin Union anticipated would be a temporary closing after graduation weekend.

The Wisconsin Union team anticipates that small portions of the Terrace may intermittently close throughout summer 2016. Continued construction includes the installation of personalized pavers on the Terrace.

“After experiencing guest traffic during graduation weekend, it was determined that Terrace construction will not significantly disrupt our guests,” Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier said.

The Terrace temporarily closed in fall 2015 to undergo numerous renovations, including updates to accessibility, safety, and entertainment capabilities.

Returning to the Terrace are paddling rentals, the Terrace After Dark music and film series, and one night arts and crafts classes.

New to the restored, beloved space are yoga on the Terrace five days per week, standup paddleboard yoga classes three days per week, family-friendly films on select Sundays, and free, drop-in arts and crafts projects.

Terrace patrons can also now access real-time capacity and weather-related updates through Twitter.com/terraceupdates.

Guests will have continue to have access to the renovated Terrace from the N. Park Street and the N. Lake Street entrances.

Based on the current construction schedule, the Memorial Union first floor will open in fall 2016. The second, third and fourth floors are expected to open in fall 2017.
