Wisconsin Union hosts festivities for graduates and their friends and families

Activities include cap decorating, live music, big Terrace chair photo opportunities, and livestreamed ceremonies

The Wisconsin Union team is excited to welcome University of Wisconsin–Madison graduates and their loved ones to a weekend of commencement events at its buildings Memorial Union and Union South.

Graduates may bedazzle, paint, and adorn their caps at Wheelhouse Studios’ Cappy Hour in Memorial Union’s lower level from May 8 through 13, noon to 10 p.m.

The Union's fun continues with live music performances at the Memorial Union Terrace at 7 p.m. on May 13 and May 14. Friday will feature The Funkee JBeez, and Saturday will spotlight The Mersey Brothers featuring Sean Michael Dargan.

On May 14, family and friends of graduates can enjoy watching the livestreamed commencement ceremonies – for bachelor’s, master’s, and law degree recipients – at noon from the comfort of both Union buildings. Watch locations include the Sett and the Sun Garden at Union South as well as der Rathskeller and the Terrace at Memorial Union. Dining options will be available with first come, first served seating.

Graduates can capture this special day with free professional photos on the big Terrace chair at the Plaza at Union South from 10 a.m. to noon on May 14 and on the big Terrace chair at the Memorial Union Terrace from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. that same day.

“We are deeply proud of our new alumni,” said Mark Guthier, Wisconsin Union director and associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “They have accomplished so much in the past few years, and it is our honor to provide the spaces where they can celebrate their university experience.”

Individuals can also pick up Badger swag and flowers for their graduates at the Badger Markets at Memorial Union and Union South. Lifetime Wisconsin Union memberships are also available at a limited time 75 percent discount for new graduates. For $60, the membership comes with a mini Terrace chair – or a graduate can purchase just the membership for $50 – at union.wisc.edu/newgrad
