gALPHA Social Justice seeks changemakers for second campus program

Nationally-ranked startup accelerator gener8tor and the American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact will hold a second gALPHA Social Justice program in collaboration with the Wisconsin Union’s Social Justice Hub in spring 2020.

The program’s team invites University of Wisconsin-Madison students, who are committed to making a positive impact in the world, to receive support for their initiatives and to develop innovative ways to address social justice issues. This program also ran in fall 2019 and supported students in initiatives on topics ranging from increasing high school civic engagement to providing a venue for students of color to share stories on campus.

The program aims to understand students’ social justice interests and goals and to build capacity to achieve those goals. During the program, gener8tor staff meet one-on-one with students up to twice per week to discuss social justice problems and potential solutions, conduct market research, set goals, discuss how to validate a design with beneficiaries, and plan communication.

Program leaders encourage students to apply in teams of two or more. Those interested must submit applications by Feb. 10, 2020.

“During the fall 2019 program, some students told me that they had ideas but didn’t know what to do to make them happen,” gener8tor’s gBETA Social Impact Director Lauren Usher said. “It was exciting to see people develop a timeline and make connections in the community.”

The application is available at gbetasocialimpact.com/galpha-social-justice-application. Those with questions can contact Usher at lauren@gener8tor.com.
