Free, four-day gala featuring local artists to open Nov. 19

The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Art Committee invites the community to attend the WUD Art Gala opening Nov. 19 at the Class of 1925 Gallery in the Memorial Union.

On the opening day, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy live jazz performed by Madison-based Left Field from 1-3 p.m. while viewing the work of local artists.

This event is free and open to the public. It will continue through Nov. 22 with special events occurring each day. 

On Nov. 20, the gala will feature a pop-up installation by University of Wisconsin-Madison student and Wheelhouse Studios Artist-in-Residence Daniel Kaplan.

The next day of the gala will include feminist collaging and poetry in partnership with the Campus Women’s Center 5:30-8 p.m.

On the final day of the gala, guests will have the opportunity to makes zines in collaboration with the National Organization for Women Madison Chapter from 5-7 p.m.

“We want to bring the gallery’s art to the community, but we also want to bring people together to create their own art,” said Haley Fuhr, WUD Art associate director of marketing.

WUD Art is a student-run committee that manages all aspects of Union exhibitions, from artist selection and installation to marketing efforts.
