All-Level Yoga Classes to be Held at the Memorial Union Terrace

Posted: 05/31/16

The Wisconsin Union’s Outdoor UW will host all-level yoga on the Terrace and standup paddleboard (SUP) yoga classes on Lake Mendota this summer six days per week from June 4 to September 5.

Terrace yoga will be available to anyone looking to start their day by taking time for wellness at everyone’s favorite place on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Outdoor UW offers online registration and same-day, drop-in registration, as space allows, at a cost of $7 per class.

“Yoga has so many health benefits. Balance, flexibility, and strength are the main ones. There’s also, of course, benefits for mental health,” said Sarah Calvert, Outdoor UW Terrace yoga coordinator.

SUP yoga provides another chance for yoga-lovers to test their balance and strength. Interested guests must pre-register before 10 p.m. the night prior to the class. SUP yoga costs $14 per class, which includes the paddleboard rental fee.

“Yoga on a paddleboard makes yoga different,” Calvert said. “You end up using the movement of the board and can go deeper into poses.”

These yoga classes are part of the Union’s many efforts to promote outdoor recreation through Outdoor UW.

“This is a great fit for Outdoor UW,” Outdoor UW Assistant Director Joseph Webb said. “Combining the beautiful views offered by the Terrace with yoga can offer amazing experiences for individuals looking to bring balance, physically and mentally, to their lives.”

Pre-registered participants will receive notifications about schedule changes through email. Outdoor UW will also make updates available at twitter.com/terraceupdates.
