Each of the 1,720 hand-splattered chairs was uniquely painted by Multicultural Student Center (MSC) students and staff.

The black mini chairs feature four paint colors that represent the MSC’s identity centers: the Black Cultural Center (yellow), Indigenous Student Center (blue), Latinx Cultural Center (teal) and APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Student Center (red).

A portion of each $19.99 chair purchased will be donated to the MSC Fund in support of the MSC’s food insecurity initiative.

More About The Multicultural Student Center

The Multicultural Student Center offers spaces, programs and services that center, affirm and celebrate the diverse and intersectional identities of students of color in order to cultivate a sense of belonging and community while strengthening all students’ capacity to learn, lead and thrive.

Founded in 1988 to support the academic life of students of color at UW–Madison, the Center has served as a home away from home for students of color, providing spaces, programs and services where diverse and intersectional identities are centered, affirmed and celebrated.

Today, the MSC includes nine staff members and four identity centers: the Black Cultural Center (2017), APIDA Student Center (2019), Latinx Cultural Center (2019) and Indigenous Student Center (2021) and is a hub for multicultural student organizations and the convener of campus-wide heritage and history months, as well as yearlong programming where students get involved and connect to one another in an effort to build community and belonging.
